Who is Jackie Chan?
Jackie Chan is a Hong Kong actor, martial artist, film director, producer, stuntman, and singer. He is known for his acrobatic fighting style, comic timing, use of improvised weapons, and innovative stunts, which he typically performs himself.
Early Life
Jackie Chan was born in 1954 in Hong Kong. He was the son of Charles and Lee-Lee Chan, refugees from the Chinese Civil War. He was sent to the China Drama Academy at the age of 7 to receive his training in opera and martial arts. At the Academy, he received many awards for his martial arts skills.
Career
In the 1970s, Jackie Chan began appearing in films and television shows. He first gained notoriety for his roles in the martial arts films Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978) and Drunken Master (1978). His success in these films led to him becoming an international star, appearing in more than 150 films.
Adventures of Jackie Chan
In 1996, Chan began his own production company, Jackie Chan Adventures, which produced the popular television series of the same name. The series followed the adventures of a fictionalized version of Chan, a Chinese archeologist, who traveled the world searching for artifacts. The series was a huge success and ran for nine seasons.
Legacy
Jackie Chan is widely considered to be one of the greatest martial artists of all time. His films have grossed more than US$2 billion worldwide, and he is one of the few actors to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is also an influential philanthropist, having founded the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation in 1988.
